Turner students help name Chehaw's baby kangaroo
After researching and voting on a name for each of the 22 classes at Turner Elementary School, the baby winning moniker for Chehaw Wild Animal Park's baby kangaroo is Adeline.
The name, which was submitted by two classes, is Australian and was picked by Chehaw representatives and announced during a small assembly at the school on Friday.
One of the winning class's teachers, Yakarii Vance says her kids are thrilled to be picked and they didn't expect it at all.
The two winning classes are now invited on a behind-the-scenes tour of Chehaw to be planned before the school year is over.
3rd grader Zaccorie Keaton helped research the name and says he's excited for the field trip.
Vance says the kids really got into the naming process which was not only fun but helped the learn how to research online and utilize new technology, which is crucial in this new era of computer-based learning.
