The Turner Pre-Release Center in Sycamore Georgia has officially become a Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) Center.
RSAT is a six-to-nine month "highly structured" substance abuse program. It is aimed at offenders whose history of substance abuse has lead them to commit crimes.
Around 50 jobs were saved by remissioning the center. Losing those jobs would have been a huge blow to a town with population just over 700.
The center could also be saving Georgia money. The Georgia Department of Corrections reports that for every dollar spent on drug addiction treatment reduces the cost of drug related crimes by $4-$7.
