Turner County moves forward with new 911 center

The Turner County Commission has approved a new 911 center to be built next to the sheriff's office.

The Turner County Commission has approved a new 911 center to be built next to the sheriff's office.

Back in March, the commission was hearing bids for the new building.

This new plan will put the 9-1-1 center beside the sheriff's office. County Manager Mary Wynn says the soil in the area is now being inspected to ensure it can be built in that area.

Sheriff Andy Hester and EMA Director Jason Lawson say it makes sense to have the two side by side.

The fire department is also in the process of getting a new building to store all of its equipment in the same location.
