The Tifton Fire Department responded to several calls last night during the storms that went through the city.

One of their calls belonged to one of their own firefighters, Jamie May.

May's brother was in the house at the time and told FOX 31 he heard heavy winds and hail hitting up against the house and before he knew it the entire roof was ripped off.

Fire officials are sure it was a tornado that hit the house but are waiting on confirmation from the National Weather Service, who is reporting the damage as coming from straight line winds.

Today there are several firefighters and members of the community helping clean up May's house and recover what they can from the inside.
