Tifton fire sends one to the hospital
First Update (3/29/13)
Officials with the Georgia Insurance and Fire Commissioner's office say that the man originally thought to have jumped out of the second-story window, actually repelled out.
Officials add that he has been taken to the ICU and will be charged with arson upon his release from the hospital.
Apartments at 211 Main Street in Tifton had to be evacuated Thursday evening due to a fire.
The call came in to dispatch around 10 PM, but before the fire department could get to the residence, one occupant jumped from a second-story window and had to be taken to Tift Regional Medical Center by EMS for treatment.
Thanks to the aggressive interior attack from the fire department, the fire was knocked down quickly.
The fire caused heavy damage to the apartment. The cause is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
