Tifton city council approves alcohol in festivals
Tifton, Ga —
Anyone attending festivals in Tifton can now roam around with alcohol in hand.
On Monday, Tifton City Council members approved restaurants selling alcohol during designated events, and people can take the drink outside.
There will be a controlled zone for people to drink and special cups for the alcohol. Wristbands are another requirement to understand who is of age.
According to Tifton City Attorney Rob Wilmot, it’s been successful in other cities, including Savannah, and it can help improve Tifton.
“It brings people downtown," Wilmot said. "It brings people out to the various events. I think it’s good for the downtown merchants, and I think it’s good for economic development.”
The Tift City Council will select the designated festival to allow alcohol, and Rhythm and Ribs is an example of the type of festival.
