Tift County turns purple for Lupus fight
It was a sea of purple today in Tifton as the community came together to support a worthy cause.
Community members rallied together to raise awareness for the disease, Lupus, and titled the event, "Tift County Goes Purple 2013."
Supporters were asked to wear purple shirts to the Georgia Firebirds football game, with survivors asked to sport white shirts.
Organizers were hopeful that the colorful shirts would alert people to this disease, and call attention to the affects it has on real people.
"We want people to know that Lupus does exist so in the long run we can get out house representative and our senators to go to Washington to grant money so we can find a cure for this mystery disease," said event organizer, Pat McKinnon.
The group hopes to raise at least $2,000 dollars for Lupus awareness, and says by having more events like this one they're certainly making a difference.
