Throwing the book at illegal dumpers

The mayor will be asking judges to "throw the book" at those that are charged with illegal dumping, she wants them to do the maximum amount of community service and pay the maximum fine. / Courtney Highfield

Mayor Dorothy Hubbard held a press conference Friday morning to announce the implementation of Phase II of her call to service initiative.

Phase I was educating the public about why its a safety and health hazard to litter and dump illegally.

Mayor Hubbard says unfortunately, that wasn't enough and they're still dealing with illegal dump sites on a daily basis. So now Phase II is enforcement.

The mayor will be asking judges to "throw the book" at those that are charged with illegal dumping, she wants them to do the maximum amount of community service and pay the maximum fine.

Her message to those that are doing the illegal dumping is, "if you don't stop, we will find you, and you will be punished."
