Third candidate qualifies for Ward II election

Cheryl Calhoun (seen on the left) qualified on Wednesday to run as a Ward II commissioner candidate

As of Wednesday, three people are in the running to fill the Ward II seat left vacant by Albany Mayoral Candidate Dorothy Hubbard.

Cheryl Calhoun, a pastor, completed her qualification paperwork and paid her $450 to have her name on the Nov. 8 election ballot for the special election. So far, Calhoun is now running alongside Marine Base Employee and pastor Ivey Hines, 58, and Graphic Designer Melissa Strother to replace for Ward II.

Qualification for the Ward II special election ends at noon on Friday.

Hubbard was forced to leave her seat at Ward II commissioner because of her run for Albany Mayor.
