Wednesday marks the 151st anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

The Terrell County chapter of the NAACP celebrated jubilee day this morning at Beaulahland Baptist Church in Dawson.

Dawson Mayor Christopher Wright along with other area leaders were there at the church, which was filled with about 100 people.

Terrell County NAACP President Ezekiel Holley says they have been doing this program every year since he became president in 1994.

"If you don't know where you come from, how do you know where you're going?" Holley said. "And we want especially our young people of all races and all nationalities to know where we come from."

Reverend Holley says in 2014, the Terrell County NAACP will focus on getting people registered to vote, fighting the death penalty in the county, and keeping young people in school.
