Tearful goodbye as civilians deployed to Afghanistan

A pair of civilians from the Marine Corps Logistics Base maintenance center in Albany left for Afghanistan Thursday morning.

For Donnie Collett, it's his fourth time out. He says leaving isn't anything he and his family get used to, but the feeling he gets from his work helping the marines makes it worth it.

"I was never in the service. And I think that I am kind of doing my duty of helping out the troops today to make it safer here in the United States," said Collett.

Collett will be in Afghanistan for a year. He'll be helping repair military vehicles.
