Students at Albany State University now have a larger selection of certifications to choose from within the education department.

The reason is because the school's 'Educator Preparation Program' has been approved for seven new certifications.

The courses include English Education, ESOL Endorsement, Gifted Endorsement, K-5 Mathematics Endorsement, K-5 Science Endorsement, Online Teaching Endorsement, and Teacher Leader Endorsement.

ASU officials say these new programs will enhance the professional development of future educators so that they'll be better prepared to teach students.

The Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved the school with all standards met and no areas for improvement.

"That demonstrates to us that the programs that we have in our 'Educated Preparation program' are solid," said Dr. Kimberly Fields, ASU Interim Dean of the College of Education. "They're meeting those standards so candidates who are enrolled, whether it's an initial program or at the advance level, have the content skills and disposition that are required of an educator."

Applications will be accepted this Fall and classes will start in the Spring.
