SWAT team called after Albany man barricades himself in home

The Albany-Dougherty Metro SWAT team is called out after a man barricades himself in his home.

Albany police received a call around 11:43 A.M. saying a man had barricaded himself in his house at 807 Corn Avenue.

They responded to the scene where they assembled a team of SWAT members from the Dougherty County Police, Albany police, the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office, Albany drug unit, and school police.

According to police, the team entered the home and was able to apprehend 43-year-old Mark Harewood and placed him under arrest around 12:55 P.M.. There were no injuries sustained during this incident.

Harewood was charged with aggravated assault and terrorist threats and acts from an incident that occurred prior to barricading himself into his home according to authorities. According to police, 36-year-old Christopher Thomas was charged at by Harewood with a knife and threatened to kill him. When Thomas attempted to defend himself, Harewood ran into the house at 807 Cotton Avenue and barricaded himself inside.
