      Suspect caught in Fitzgerald shooting

      Investigators with the Ben Hill County Sheriff's Office have confirmed that the man man picked up Tuesday has now been charged.

      28-year-old Shawn Pennington has now been charged with one count of aggravated assault with a firearm, burglary in the second degree, and possession of a firearm during a crime.


      Initial Story (12/24/13)
      A suspect in the shooting of an attendant of the 107 Express Gas Station on Highway 107 in Fitzgerald is under arrest.

      Police say that around 7:30 p.m. Monday, 911 dispatchers received a call from the attendant saying that he had been shot.

      EMS and police made their way to the scene and found the man conscious despite being shot in the head, arm, and hand.

      He was able to give police a description of the suspect as a black male who left in a black semi-trailer.

      Then around 8 a.m. Tuesday, a Fitzgerald police officer spotted the semi-trailer after a lookout was issued in multiple counties.

      Fitzgerald police along with deputies from the Ben Hill Sheriff's Office then stopped the vehicle and placed the suspect under arrest.

      Officials with the Ben Hill County Sheriff's Office say that the suspect is in their custody and that evidence and interviews are still being gathered.

      No charges have been filed at this time.
