Sumter County looks for escaped inmate

Nathan Dwayne Williams, escapee from Sumter County Correctional Institute was apprehended this morning around 11:00AM. He was located behind Peacock Towing on Hwy 280 East and taken into custody without incident. Williams is being charged with Escape at this time but further charges are pending.

Sheriff Smith would like to thank Americus Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, Department of Natural Resources, Georgia Fugitive Squad, Lee State Canine Units, and Lee State Prison Guards for their assistance with the manhunt. Sheriff Smith also thanks the citizens for their cooperation and tips leading to the apprehension.

Sumter County officials are looking for an escaped inmate from their correctional institute.

Nathan Dwayne Williams is a white male, 5'7, 180 pounds.

He has blue eyes, brown hair.

He has a scar across his nose and a few tattoos to look for.

On the left shoulder he has a rebel flag and on the right arm he has a cross and a sun.

Police say he escaped during work detail Monday.
