The Smarr and Smith Foundation was established in memory of Nick Smarr and Jody Smith, two officers who were tragically killed in the line of duty in December.

Sumter County will hold an event in June to "paint the town blue" in an effort to connect the community with local law enforcement.

The Smarr and Smith Foundation created an official committee in February with the hope to insure officers are given the best care while protecting the homes of those in Sumter County.

Some of the goals of the foundation are to provide the best tactical gear for officers, along with the best training and education.

"Some of the community members felt like we needed to do something to honor those officers, but at the same time support local law enforcement," Chief Deputy Eric Bryant said.

"Paint the Town Blue" will be held June, 17, 2017. There are a few ways to get involved with the event. Contact for more information.
