Summer sports safety for kids
Student athletes from Dougherty, Mitchell, and Terrell counties made a trip to Phoebe Northwest this weekend to get cleared to play school sports in the fall.
Over 50 volunteers were there to give nearly 1,200 students their yearly athletic physicals. Doctors tested students' blood pressure, heart rate, vision, height and weight, and orthopedic issues.
Fox 31 asked doctors for any advice they may have for students that will be practicing or playing sports over the summer and they said the most important thing kids need to be aware of is not getting overheated. Officials said with the high temperatures in this area it's very likely for kids to get overheated and not realize it until they pass out. They need to be aware of their body temperature and stay hydrated.
