Students at Turner Elementary School in Albany are competing in a contest to name Chehaw Wild Animal Park's baby kangaroo.
Each class has to participate in different projects that will help students pick a name, then based off of the results, each of the 22 classes will vote on a name and turn them in to the park on March 21st.
Turner Principal Dr. Gail Solomon says the experience is not only exciting for students but it's also a learning opportunity because there are specific guidelines for the name. The submitted names must be Australian, and both both Dr. Solomon and Chehaw employees say it's a way to have students learn while having fun and competing in a contest that draws interest.
Chehaw will pick the winner out of the 22 finalists on March 22nd during a ceremony at the school.
