Earth Day was started in 1970 and each year on April 22nd, about 10,000 events are held around the globe to honor Mother Earth.

Over 250 people showed up to Darton State College Tuesday to celebrate Earth Day.

After answering a few trivia questions or dropping off items to be recycled, a t-shirt and other prizes were handed out.

Organizer Betty Sue Story says that awareness is important and in order to reduce our carbon footprint, more people need to start recycling and keep trash out of the landfills.
