Staying safe to splash another day

Officials stress pool safety for holiday swimming.

For Labor Day weekend many families will head to the pool to cool off but officials say make sure to keep safety in mind.

Swimmers are advised to be aware of their surroundings at all times when getting in the water. And if the kids are tagging along, keep an eye on them, even if they are good swimmers.

Life vests are advised for non-swimmers but make sure they are U.S. Coast Guard approved.

Noodles are okay as long as they are in standing water. I do not recommend noodles or any artificial floatation devices if they're in water above four feet, said Latonya Conner, Albany State University Physical Education Program Coordinator.

Conner says if you're not a good, swimmer stay in the shallow end of the pool.
