Albany State University welcomed state representatives Monday afternoon for a program on how to have your voice heard in legislation.

Guest speaker State Representative Stacey Abrams from House District 84 taught the crowd how to change your life by starting where you are, using what you have and doing what you can.

Abrams says everyone has the power of the vote and should use it for more than just the presidential election because the local elections affect people greatly.

She also taught those present that in order to change your life and the lives of those around you, you must learn who is responsible for the life you live and whose choices affect you.

Representative Abrams was joined by her colleagues Senator Freddie Powell-Sims and fellow State Representative Winfred Dukes who say they hope students walk away with a call to action.

Representative Dukes says students are the future and he hopes they realize you're never too young to start.

Representative Abrams says she urges students to go home and learn who to contact for certain issues and start making a change.
