      Spike in Summer accidents and blood shortage not a good mix

      The American Red Cross sent out a press release Friday stating the need for volunteers to donate blood and platelets.

      Kristin Stancil, with the American Red Cross, says there is always a spike in accidents in the Summer which means the need for blood is significantly greater.

      Stancil says during the Summer months people are busy with vacations and other things and there aren't as many volunteers. She just wants to remind the public that there are people nationwide that rely on these blood donations.
