A new spay and neuter clinic is scheduled to open on Covington Avenue in Thomasville this spring.
Jerry Henderson, president of Miss Kitty Feline Sanctuary, believes this clinic will be the largest of its type south of metro Atlanta.
The South Georgia Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic will be an extension of the Miss Kitty Feline Sanctuary, which has been in business for five years.
Henderson says the $140,000 they raised to build the facility came from private individuals, most of whom are pet owners, or foundations.
"We originally were only going to have cats and small dogs," Henderson said. "Then a major donor's donation was based on the fact that it would be open to all dogs."
He says that means they have had to change the floor plan, and he says they will continue to raise funds and have meetings to discuss the latest updates.
Henderson says the clinic expects to spay or neuter 5,000 animals annually.
He projects the groundbreaking to take place in April and for it to open this summer.
