SOWEGA Council on Aging looks to make major cuts
Thu, 24 Jan 2013 00:51:59 GMT —
The SOWEGA Council on Aging held their second and final public hearing on Wednesday afternoon to get opinions directly from seniors on where they should make their budget cuts.
Executive Director Kay Hind says they received news that the council would have more than 10% of their funds cut in the upcoming budget.
After updating the seniors on how construction is going on the new senior center on Byne Street, Hind and her team opened up the floor to receive tips on what should and shouldn't be cut.
Seniors said they wanted to keep their daily lunches, transportation options, special activities, meals on wheels and more.
Those who showed up said the areas of work include making sure those being picked up or delivered meals cancel if they're not home so money doesn't go to waste.
The council plans to review all of the feedback before writing the area plan of where to make the cuts.
