Southwest Georgians weigh in on raising the age to purchase cigarettes
A New York proposal to raise the legal age for buying cigarettes to 21 is causing a debate over whether or not it would cause more issues, and in our Facebook Story of the day, you wanted to know what the pros and cons would arise from changing the age.
Fox 31 spoke to some Southwest Georgians, and while some say it might prevent teens from beginning the habit, others say they can only see the negative side of the issue.
"It probably would make it more attractive, just because it's doing something wrong, something illegal, it's like underage drinking. Drinking age is 21, there's still underage drinking," said Katrina Sokolowski.
"It's not going to do any good. They're going to smoke them whether they're old enough or not, they're going to smoke," said John Winters.
When asked if they could see any pros coming from changing the age, even the people who are against smoking said they couldn't.
