Southwest Georgians get lucky streak in Georgia Lottery games
Several Southwest Georgians have hit the jackpot in the past week from playing the Georgia Lottery.
Americus resident Shaquita Mitchell won $3 million after playing a Georgia Lottery instant win game after stopping into the Danfair Express on Forsyth Street.
The 33-year-old grocery store cashier claimed her prize Monday at Georgia Lottery District office in Columbus.
"I went in to get gas, and I purchased the ticket," Mitchell said. "I scratched it when I went back to my car. I couldn't believe it." In disbelief, the lucky winner shared the good news with the store's clerk. "I said, 'This can't be true,' " she recalled. "The clerk said, 'Yes! You have won $3 million.'"
This isn't the first time that the Danfair Express has sold a million dollar ticket, as they also sold a $1 million top prize ticket last August.
Wayne Sheets of Thomasville also won $3 million dollars playing an instant game at the Flash Foods in Thomasville.
Sheets, an avid gardener, plans to purchase a farm with his winnings.
"I'll grow organic vegetables and raise free range turkeys and chickens for my personal use," he said. "I have easy dreams."
