A Tifton man reported to police last week that his four-ton Goodman heat pump and meter box had been stolen.

He noticed there was no power to the building and that it was hot. That's when he checked and saw the unit missing.

FOX 31 spoke to Clay Carr with SafeAire Heating and Cooling who said unfortunately this along with copper theft from these units has been a big problem.

Carr said to prevent this he recommends getting a cage put around the unit that can only be opened when its being serviced. He also said you can set something up with alarm companies so that an alarm goes off and police are alerted when someone tries to get into the unit.
