Sisters charged after dropped debit card used to pay off layaways
Two sisters have been arrested after Albany police say they used a debit card that didn't belong to them to pay off layaways and buy items.
Police say that 27-year-old Erica Brown admitted to picking up a debit card while working at K-Mart. Her sister, 24-year-old Mercedes Brown, admitted to watching her sister pick up the card and begin using it.
The duo taking turns using the card to pay off layaways, buy gift cards and purchase a basketball goal and a trampoline according to investigators.
Both have been charged with seven counts of financial transaction card fraud. Erica Brown also faces a charge of financial transaction card theft.
