Shredding event looks to deter local identity theft
You might still have some papers with personal information from Tax Day laying around your house, but you can safety get rid of them this weekend.
Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful is hosting its annual document shredding event on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Civic Center parking lot. The event will be held rain or shine.
KADB Executive Director Judy Bowles said all you have to do is pull your car in and open your trunk, and volunteers will take it from there.
“We will shred them free of charge for you, and then we’ll recycle that paper, and of course, this project helps us deter identity theft,” she said.
Bowles said that over the past five years this event has been around, they’ve shredded and recycled more than 55,000 tons of documents.
