      Shots fired in Tift County

      Sheriff Gene Scarbrough told the Gazette that the first of the two shootings occurred around 9:30 to 10 a.m. on South Central Avenue behind the Chevron station with no one being hit by those shots. / MGN Online


      UPDATED (4/27/13 8:00AM):

      According to Tift County Sheriff Gene Scarbrough, GBI agents and Tift County investigators are continuing their investigation of a shooting death of a young male on Short Street in Tift County.

      Officials are also investigating another shooting where a young female suffered a gunshot wound to the arm in the incident.

      The female is being treated at a medical facility.

      Investigators and agents went door-to-door interviewing residents and potential witnesses while the GBI Crime Scene Unit, Sylvester field office, processed the area for evidence.

      Authorities are also investigating a shooting incident on South Central Avenue involving businesses near Interstate 75 that were struck with gunfire. Several homes were also struck by gunfire in this area.

      At this time officials say that they are not sure if the incidents are connected.

      The Tifton Gazette is reporting that two shootings occurred in Tifton Friday morning.

      Sheriff Gene Scarbrough told the Gazette that the first of the two shootings occurred around 9:30 to 10 a.m. on South Central Avenue behind the Chevron station with no one being hit by those shots.

      Tift County officials say that the second shooting happened around noon with one man being shot and killed and one woman being hit in the arm.
