      Sheriff's office make arrests after man shoots neighbors

      Investigators say 41-year-old Timothy Thompson is facing sixteen counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

      A neighborhood dispute has turned into two arrests after a man shot two of his neighbors.Officials with the Tift County Sheriff's Office say that Saturday night evening, deputies and other personnel responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of Zion Hope Road in Chula.There they said they found two people injured by gunfire with one having a wound in the back and the other in the leg and hand. Witnesses told investigators that there had been a dispute over wages between the two Zion Hope Road neighbors.One of the residents was identified as 58-year-old Rodney Bennett, who had filed a criminal trespass earlier in the day Saturday according to officers alleging that someone drove across his yard and that the offender also lived in the neighborhood.Witnesses also told investigators that on late Saturday afternoon, Bennett purchased a twelve gauge shotgun and ammunition, with the shooting happening a short time later.That shotgun, according to officials, was sold to Bennett by 41-year-old Timothy Thompson of Chula.Deputies say they obtained a search warrant for Thompson's Brookfield Road home and seized a total of fifteen firearms and assorted ammunition during the searchInvestigators say that Thompson faces sixteen counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one for the shotgun allegedly sold to Thompson and for each of the fifteen found at his residence.Investigators add that Bennett is facing four counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, burglary in the first degree and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. One count each of the aggravated assault stems from the two persons that were shot. One county each of aggravated assault for the shootings, one for allegedly pointing the shotgun at the head of another person who was uninjured, and one for firing a shot at another person. The burglary charge stems from entering the home with the intent to commit aggravated assault.Both of the injured were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
