Sunday afternoon, the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office was made aware of a scam occurring with Lowndes County residents.
An unknown caller contacted the victims and stated that they had failed to show up for a jury summons and could avoid being arrested if they paid a fine.
The caller asked for the victim's credit card information.
Sheriff Prine has stated that no one from the Sheriff's Office will ever contact you by telephone and demand money in exchange for not being arrested.
Anyone receiving such a call should never provide any personal information to an unknown caller.
If you receive such a call, write down the calling number, end the call and contact the Sheriff's Office immediately.
