Sears Portrait Studio closing their doors

A single sign was all that was announcing the closure of the Portrait Studio. / Colby Gallagher

Ivette Rivera says she got ready for work at Sears Portrait Studios on Thursday just like any other day, until her manager told her to look on Facebook.

Forwarded to her was a message from the Portrait Studio's President and CEO Jim Abel explaining that due to declining business, all of the studios in the United States would be closing effective April 3rd.

At the bottom Abel attached a list of frequently asked questions hoping to address the concerns of employees, but Rivera says she still has questions.

Rivera says after almost two years with the studio, she feels being told the studio was closing on the same day was wrong and she would like an explanation.

With a 6, 5 and 2 year old, Rivera says she may now have to turn to unemployment to support her family until she graduates in two months as a paralegal.

Although she has a different potential career in the future, Rivera says there are others who are left without any answers and no where to go.

As for customers who haven't picked up their photos yet, Rivera says the only thing given was a sign on the counter saying to direct all questions to 229-434-4333.
