A gruesome discovery has launched search efforts in the Kinchafoone Creek in Lee County.
Lee County officials say swimmers found what they believed to be the remains of a human body part.
With crime tape up and swim suits on, the Lee County Dive Team jumped into action on Saturday.
Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals says, "we're hoping that it's not nothing to it but we are taking all the steps to try to clear this up."
Around 4:00 Saturday afternoon, Rachals says they were tipped off about a possible body part found in the Kinchafoone Creek.
Rachals says, "we're pretty confident we'll find something to clear this air up. We hope to find the part that they come across yesterday."
Lee County Fire Chief James Howell says the search was called off Saturday night because of thunder, but quickly resumed early Sunday morning.
Howell says, "we're going to keep divers in the water for as long as we feel it's practical. At some point if we don't find anything and at some point we're going to have to call this off. But at this point it's just trial and error and go as we go."
As of Sunday, the Lee County Sheriff's Office did not find the body part, but will continue to look. No action will be taken against the people that reported it.
