Red Ribbon Week is in full swing at the Dougherty County School System.
Red Ribbon week helps address substance abuse awareness among students. On Monday kids from elementary, middle and high schools attended a red ribbon kick off at the Veteran's Amphitheater.
Officials say drug abuse is reoccurring problem.
"We emphasize it this week, but it is an ongoing thing for us in the school system. This week in particular we emphasize it and put it on a pedestal," said Dougherty County School System Assistant Police Chief J.C. Phillips.
Students were asked to take a pledge, promising to keep away from drugs, cigarettes and alcohol.
