School employee arrested for crimes involving a minor
SECOND UPDATE (12:30 PM):
Valdosta City Schools released a statement about Michael Thompson's employment.
Michael Thompson was a warehouse clerk for Valdosta City Schools from June 15, 1999 until June 30, 2010. His position was phased out due to a reduction in force. Mr. Thompson was rehired on November 15, 2010 as a general maintenance employee. His job duties did not require him to interact with students. According to the Tifton Police Department, nothing in their investigation has indicated that there are any other victims. Mr. Thompson has been released from employment with Valdosta City Schools.

Valdosta City School System confirms to FOX 31 that Michael Thompson is a former employee. More details will be released when they become available.
On December 9, 2013, it was reported to Detective Ferron Yi of the Tifton Police Department that a man from Valdosta, Georgia was believed to have had inappropriate contact with a child under the age of 16 here in Tifton.
The ensuing investigation led to the arrest of Michael Kent Thompson, age 60, of Valdosta, Georgia.
He is charged with four counts of Child Molestation, one count of Aggravated Child Molestation, four counts of Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes, one count of Aggravated Sexual Battery, two counts of Solicitation of Sodomy, one count of Obscene Telephone Contact, and one count of Electronically Furnishing Obscene Material to a Minor.
Mr. Thompson was arrested on December 12, 2013 in Valdosta by Detective Ferron Yi with assistance from Officer Daniel Ray and members of the Valdosta Police Department.
Mr. Thompson was employed by the Valdosta City School System in a non-teaching capacity. Nothing in the investigation so far has indicated any other victims and the Superintendent's Office of the Valdosta City Schools has fully cooperated with the investigation.
