School is out for the summer but school officials are trying to make some purchases for next school year.

Dougherty County School System Transportation Director Kenneth Williams is requesting the purchase of five new buses to be paid for by Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). These vehicles would replace an older fleet of buses.

Also, DCSS Police Chief Troy Conley is requesting Zonar equipment for a couple of police vehicles. This is the same GPS technology recently installed on all school buses.

They have access to a website where they can go in and look and see where all of the buses are located as well just in case they might have some incidents with school buses or whatever the case may be," Williams said.

The requests now go to the school board for approval.
