Saving money during holiday shopping

A survey by AAA shows shoppers are using points, rewards and miles for savings during their holiday shopping. Four in 10 consumers, according to AAA's survey, will redeem their reward points to save during the holiday season; nearly half of them are using the points for cash back and 35 percent are using the points to purchase merchandise for others.
The store manager at the Sears in the Albany Mall says technology is helping many people with their bargain hunting.
"People even have iPhones where they have sears apps or apps that you can download," says Store Manager George Galligan. "On Nov. 13 we're actually having 'better than Black Friday,' our 'family and friends,' it's going to be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. They're going to be doing deals that are better than Black Friday."
Wal-Mart is also giving shoppers a preview of what their prices will be like on Saturday.
Consumers are checking out a website that leaks stores' Black Friday ads to get a start on their shopping plan.
Some people are beginning the bargain hunting now.
A study by Brand Keys says 66 percent of the 16,000 consumers surveyed indicated they already started their holiday shopping and are looking for deals and sales before Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
