Road repairs in Valdosta lead to temporary closures
City of Valdosta officials are alerting motorists that certain sections of roads will be closed or detoured due to repairs on Thursday.
They say that Norfolk Southern will be making repairs to four crossings along their route in the city limits: Gil Harbin Industrial Boulevard, Tucker Road, Smith Avenue and Old Clyattville Road.
"Grade crossings", where the railroad track "crosses over" the roadway, will be temporarily closed to traffic in both directions for the duration of the repairs. Detour signs will be posted for these streets.
While Norfolk Southern will be working on those roads, City of Valdosta workers will be cleaning and televising the sewer main located at the intersection of S. Oak Street and W. Hill Avenue at 10 a.m. During the repairs, the south end of the intersection on S. Oak Street will be closed in both directions, and traffic will be detoured via Toombs Street. The city equipment will be placed in the roadway and traffic devices will be in place to detour traffic around the work zone.
That project is expected to be completed by 1 p.m. depending on the weather.
