Restaurant Report: August 12, 2013

Health inspectors are keeping a close eye out for hygiene violations - things like handling food and drinks properly and correct hand washing procedures. If these violations are allowed to go on without being corrected, customers could possibly get sick.

Lowest Scores:

Ellianos Coffee Company, 2854 Meredyth Dr., Albany - Grade: 89

According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, any score below 70 is considered unsanitary.

During the inspection, the health inspector observed cream cheese being stored above the required temperature of 41 degrees Fahrenheit. The cream cheese was moved to a more insulated cooler.

Also noticed were missing ceiling tiles. The person in charge was notified so that the repairs could be made.

Ellianos Coffee Company was also cited for not having the latest inspection report visible.

China East - Po's Sub Sandwiches, 1719 East Oglethorpe Boulevard, Albany - Grade: 89

Here the health inspector found uncovered food in the cooler. The person in charge placed plastic wrap over the food containers.

The fume hood is in need of cleaning. An employee was seen not wearing a hair restraint and there was a food scoop not stored correctly.

China East - Po's Sub Sandwiches was also cited for using a bowl being used as a food scoop. This violation was corrected on-site.

A few local restaurants obtained a perfect grade this week, and several others were graded in the 90s.

Oglethorpe Blvd., Albany - Grade: 89 Restaurants are inspected every six months, but if you see a potential violation let your county health department know about it.
