If you drive past Albany Mall, you can't miss the beautiful row of American flags and white crosses.

That's because the American Legion Post 30 is presenting the Patriot Field of Flags and Crosses honoring the lives of the men and women who fought for our country.

Officials say the display has 525 flags and 146 crosses.

Organizers say what makes this year different is the help from Junior ROTC students from the Lee County and Dougherty County School System.

Chairman Marvin Mixon says he wants the students to understand the true meaning behind the standing flags and crosses.

"It's not just putting a flag up in front of the mall. That flag represents something and that cross represents the sacrifices that were made by a specific family," says Mixon.

He adds that the flags will be taken down around 2:00 pm Sunday, September 15th.
