Renovations to displace Dougherty High School students
The Dougherty County Board of Education building and grounds committee met Tuesday morning to go over their plans for schools that need a construction upgrade.
After voting to close Sylvester Road Elementary, Dougherty Middle School, and Magnolia Elementary School earlier in the year, education officials say they are not having to put funds into upgrading them. Those funds can now going into other project's phases.
One of those will be phase two of renovations at Dougherty Comprehensive High School.
Students at the high school will be relocated to Dougherty Middle School due to the renovations.
School officials say that phase one was basic upgrades, and now that extra funds are available, they are ready to go ahead and proceed with full renovations.
Requests for qualifications for contractors are set to go out so that bids can be taken for the project with an expected start date near the end of August.
After renovations are finished at Dougherty Comprehensive High School, officials say that work will begin at Monroe Comprehensive High School.
