The American Legion: Post 30 in Albany, along with veterans from around Southwest Georgia honored those that gave the ultimate sacrifice in battle this afternoon.

The ceremony was held for those servicemen from the Albany-Dougherty County area who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Event planners say keeping their memory alive, and honoring them each year is something that every community should take part in, not just on Memorial Day Weekend.

"It's very important that we remember the sacrifices these young men gave so that we can continue to enjoy the freedom we have," said spokesman, Marvin Mixon.

Mixon also says anyone with a family member that was not included in the ceremony should speak to the American Legion so they can add that name to the event next year.
