Questions remain in deputy/suspect shootout

Blood was visible at the crime scene

Investigators have not released the names of a Mitchell County Sheriff's Deputy and theft suspect involved in an East Albany shootout Saturday morning, but FOX 31 News has learned the incident started at Southeastern Aluminum Recycling on N. Broadway St.

Mitchell County Sheriff W.E. Bozeman says they tracked a theft suspect to the recycling center right down the road from Albany State around 11 a.m. Saturday. Police say there were shots fired at the recycling center and then deputies chased the suspect down East Oglethorpe Boulevard. The suspect's Red SUV crashed into two other cars at Loftus Drive.

A deputy shot the suspect in the arm, but it's not clear if he was hit at the recycling center or if there was more shooting after the crash. The suspect was taken to the hospital. Investigators say no one else was hurt.

The case has been turned over to the GBI.
