Putting the car in park to fight crime

Do you ever wonder why you might only see officers driving around in your area in patrol cars, but not walking around?

Well, officials with the Albany Police Department say their officers actually do patrol on foot and don't just patrol in cars.

They say they mainly do "foot patrol" in areas where they see the most crime, such as housing authorities.

Larry Hart with APD says patrolling on foot is a great way to get to know the community.

"Just going out and showing our face in the community, that kind of makes people feel a whole lot safer just to know that we are out on foot and showing that police presence that we need to show," says Hart.

He adds that if you do see an officer on foot, approach them slowly and cautiously so that you won't give them the wrong impression.
