The Albany Transit system held a public meeting Wednesday morning to discuss a proposed fare increase set to go into effect July 1, 2014.The last fare increase was in 2008. Director of Albany Transit David Hamilton thinks it's time for a change since ride and operations costs, such as gas. are going up.The Albany Transit System is proposing at $0.25 increase on July 1 from $1.25 to $1.50 and a $0.05 increase for the next five years.Hamilton says by 2018, Albany will still be below the average rate of bus fare in the country.William Ross, a former bus rider says he agrees with the fare increase but wants the buses to start running on Sundays.Hamilton says that hasn't happened because a small amount of people ride the bus on Sundays.Multiple people also voiced concern about the attitudes of the bus drivers, saying they need to get better.Hamilton agrees and urges residents to please keep record and tell a him or a supervisor so that they can address the matter head on.The final decision will be made in June about the increase in bus rates.
