Public hearings scheduled for proposed Lee County BOE millage increase

During the hearings, members of the public will be able to sign up to speak to the board about the tentative increase that was proposed in order to balance the budget and add an extra two days of instructional time for students.
Mon, 29 Jul 2013 20:41:31 GMT — The Lee County Board of Education tentatively voted to increase the millage rate by 2.5-mill with a .4 bond making it 17.9 mill total, but in order to legally adopt it three public hearings must be held first.The board decided on those dates during a board retreat at the brand new elementary school on Monday afternoon. The first hearing will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 8th while the second and third will both be held on Thursday August 15th and 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.During the hearings, members of the public will be able to sign up to speak to the board about the tentative increase that was proposed in order to balance the budget and add an extra two days of instructional time for students.Following the final meeting, the board will then vote on what they decide to do, whether it is to finalize the tentative rate or go a different route based off of feedback.Stay connected to MySouthWestGA.com as stories develop and the FOX 31 Newscast at 10 PM.
