      Property tax deadline approaching quickly

Hooten says Dougherty County brings in around $72 million in property taxes which also goes towards the city, county, and school system. / Courtney Highfield

The property tax deadline is looming for counties in Southwest Georgia.

If you live in Tift County your property taxes are due November 15th; the tax office, located at 225 Tift Avenue, is open on the 15th from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.

Chad Alexander, the Tifton Tax Commissioner, said they sent the bills in August and the total was well over $20 million. This money goes to the city, county, school system, police departments, sheriff's office, etc.

Alexander says if no one paid their property taxes it would be devastating to the city and county.

FOX 31 also spoke to the Dougherty County Tax Commissioner, Denver Hooten, who said their property taxes are due December 20th.

Hooten says Dougherty County brings in around $72 million in property taxes which also goes towards the city, county, and school system.
