Project Shield volunteer fights truancy
A local volunteer is helping your kids stay in school.
Turner Job Corps grad Michael Taylor has spent the past five months at Turner Elementary School volunteering for Project Shieldâ"a program that tries to stop kids from being late to or skipping school. School Counselor Cassandra Ransom says Taylor has helped kids get to school on time. Taylor is moving back to Columbus to help care for his parents, and he's deciding between work and school. He says he'll take many lessons from the experience.
"I've learned to work with kids better than I did before, and I've also become a mentor in kind of a way to some of the kids," Taylor said.
Turner Elementary presented Taylor with a "Certificate of Appreciation" for his work at the school.
