Private donors give vehicle to deserving church member

A woman is behind the wheel of a new car after Sunday morning's church service.

For the past couple of years, Pastor Lawrence Knighton at St. James Baptist Church in Baconton has been committed to giving back to his community and congregation.

During Sunday morning church service, Faye James was given the keys to a 1997 Buick Skylark. It was an emotional morning for James and her family and she never expected it.

"I never would have thought," James said. "I was just having trouble with my own car. It's just so amazing."

Knighton says his church has donors who don't want their names to be made public.

"It's our third vehicle we've given away in the past couple of years and all of them have been to deserving members," Knighton said. "Actually her car broke down on her and she's coming from Thomasville borrowing her sister's car and this is just perfect timing that we could give her this car."

The donors told Knighton they will now be donating vehicles to deserving people in the small Baconton community once per month.
